Dhaka, Aug 13 (UNI) Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's decision to seek asylum in India won't harm ties between the two nations, media reports said quoting Foreign Affairs Adviser Touhid Hossain.

"It is a very hypothetical question. If someone took refuge in a country then why will the relationship with them be strained? There is no reason for that,” said Hossain on Monday during a diplomatic briefing, reported BDNews24.

“Both sides have interests, India has interests in Bangladesh as we have in India. So we will follow that interest. We will try to maintain good relations," he said.

Earlier in August, the quota reform campaign turned violent. The violence throughout the country claimed the lives of about 300 people in three weeks. Hasina resigned on August 5 and took refuge in India the same day.
